Healthy Gums…Healthy Body …Healthy Life !

Gum disease is one of the most common dental conditions in the UK.  When left untreated it can lead to more serious conditions including tooth loss.

Did you know:

  • That gum disease is linked to several major diseases.
  • Treatment of gum disease may improve your overall health.
  • Looking after your gums by stopping smoking, eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly will also benefit the rest of your body.

Many factors affect how gum disease progresses.

These include inadequate plaque control, smoking and general medical conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes.

Untreated gum disease can also affect the management of other medical conditions such as diabetes and heart conditions.

What can you do?

Look after your oral health and your general health by :

  • Stop smoking /nicotine substitutes
  • Eat a healthy balanced diet rich in fruit and vegetables
  • Exercise regularly
  • If you have diabetes-monitor and control your blood sugar levels
  • Visit your dentist regularly
  • Ask your Dentist/Hygienist/Therapist about your gum health and how you can improve this.

During hygiene therapy the hygienist, therapist or dentist carries out a thorough assessment of your gum condition from which a personalised care plan is drawn up. This plan will develop and adapt as disease susceptibility changes as you, the patient practice more preventative measures. Hygiene therapy also involves the removal of plaque and other deposits like tartar or stain from the teeth and also from below the gum line.

As part of your personalised care plan the oral health care team provide tailored education on improving your oral hygiene practices including brushing and interdental cleaning techniques. Hygiene therapy tailored in this manner helps prevent gum disease, cavities and other oral health issues, promoting a healthier smile …

At Kingsport Dental Clinic we also provide Airflow Stain Removal.

Airflow polishing is a hygiene cleaning treatment that uses a mixture of air, jet water and fine powder to blast away stubborn stains and discolouration caused by smoking or by drinking drinks such as red wine, tea and coffee and returning your teeth to their natural whiteness. It can be compared to a mini jet wash of your teeth.

Patients are always impressed with the results of the Airflow system.
